Hello I'm new to the forum. We are in NC we are wanting to retire on a boat. We just bought a 50 slip in Wilmington NC on the cafe fear river. I've owned boats for years just not quite as big as we want to retire on. We are currently looking at a couple of Carver 500s. We should be done working in 5 years and will be dept free. So hopefully we can retire on the bost and travel to the Bahamas with it. I'm 53 the wife is 52.

Welcome & good luck on the search. Take your time, it's a lot of fun! You know the game. Find several in similar condition and work it! You may want to set up with a good surveyor, negotiate a preferred rate if you have him do several vessels on a limited basis, then really dig in on the one you choose after negotiations. Final closing still contingent on survey. Have some friends who retired to Wilmington. 8-) er

Well every one we have rented out our boat slip till we are ready to buy. I figure I might as well earn some money till we are ready to buy. But I do have a question on boat insurance what is a round about price. Should we say we live on it.

Boat insurance is pretty much like car insurance. The more expensive the boat the more the insurance costs. Also, like car insurance, the rates are based on you claims record and what waters you boat on. So it could be $250 yr or $5000+k year. I think they ask if you will be living aboard. Always give the proper information, so if you do have a claim it isn't denied.
