All, Does anyone know if its possible to drill a hole into the rear cockpit sides in order to insert the angled rod holders? I'm more interested in using these to hold a grill but they could be used for rods on occasion...
Just wondering if anyone has seen this on a mid 80's Mariner. The glass seems really thick in this area so I'm not looking forward to drilling to find out this isn't possible/feasible.

Re: Rod Holders- Mariner
You could on the 1986 3296 we had. If my memory serves me, either side or in the back was possible.

Re: Rod Holders- Mariner
The wood underneath is about an inch and a half thick.
My 3697 had the flag holder mounted above. I wanted it flush so I had to drill a hole on an angle for it.

As waybomb mentioned, you need to use your hole saw at an angle or drill the hole oversize. Also, you of course, want to make certain no wires or hoses are under the gunwales where you drill for the holders.

3227 Convertibles came with 4 removable rod holders installed - these work great for grills too! Very similar to these:

And no big hole required - these mount on the inside vertical face of the coaming.
