2005 444 Aft Cockpit - Fuel Consumption

Post by petergbolton »

We have the 2005 Model 444 Aft Cockpit. Does anyone with the same model Carver have accurate fuel consumption figures. Specifically, both engines at 1000 rpm, 1200 rpm, 1500 rpm etc. Not so interested in speed, just gallons being consumed as a total both engines. About to start the Loop etc etc!

Don't have your boat or know your engine's fuel consumption. That being said, if maximum range is your goal, keep your speed at hull speed or less, about 8 knots. Anything above hull speed and below a decent plane, you will be wasting lots of fuel.

petergbolton;

I have a 2006 44 CMY with the Volvo Penta D6 engines. These are some figures that I noted in the short time I have had the boat. I will give it you in US gallons. This is from my EVC for both engines.
1,000 RPM 2.5 GPH
1,500 RPM 6.9 GPH
2,000 RPM 13.8 GPH
2,500 RPM 18.2 GPH
3,000 RPM 25.8 GPH
3,600 RPM WOT - 34 GPH

The running joke among my friends with diesel engines is that when you run these things at about 7-8 knots, they almost make their own fuel. Have a great trip.

Just an FYI. When I run across Georgian Bay on plane, as you may consider outside inner coastal waterway, I run at 3150+- RPM’s. that would be you pocket for your best time, distance, fuel consumption ratio. Gives you about 20-21 MPH. You may want the put a fuel conditioner in the fuel for better performance, I use Stanadyne. Lee’s everything clean and improves fuel consumption.
