Replacing fresh water pump on a 1987 3607, what is factory pump size and would a 5 or 6 GPM pump give good water pressure? thanks for your help.

Been there done that with my 3007. It had a bad pump when I bought her and it was the first thing I had to fix. I did do it myself but it was a pain to access on my boat. Hope yours goes easier. I don't remember what rating of pump I bought unfortunately. Good luck with yours.

I'm thinking the original is half of what you are thinking in your post. Closer to 2.5-3gpm @ about 45 psi. If your plumbing isn't sized correctly a bigger gpm/psi pump may not be able to function properly. I went from a Shurflo to a Seaflo and the unit is so quite I have to turn everything in the boat off to hear it run. Thought the Shurflo was bad, turned out inlet filter was plugged up, may be your problem to? Hope your repair goes easy!

Yup, seems to me most of the original pumps were around 3 gpm. There are some here that have the same model that could verify....

I replace my pump on my 3807 and I believe the old one was about 3 gpm. I stayed with that size. A bigger pump will empty your limited size water tank quicker than a small pump.

My ‘new to me’ boat came with a accumulator. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet but may be a solution if you’re finding the pump to pulsing.

Don't go with a larger pump without checking weather your current wiring will handle the extra load or you will have to replace the wiring to accomodate it.

It will definitely help. For the heck of it I disconnected my accumulator a couple of seasons ago to see what would happen. It pulsed like crazy. Reconnected the accumulator and pulsing went away.

I have the same boat. I think my current pump is a 5 GPM and it is just fine. I did put an accumulator in they system a long time ago and it makes a VERY nice addition. I mounted it under the aft berth in the very aft port corner. It made the plumbing very easy. Just "T" it in on the output side of the pump line.

I had put in one of the "smart sensor" pumps and that was a BIG mistake. It was nice a quite (starts slow then ramps up to full speed, instead of just kicking on and off). It was an expensive pump but failed just outside warranty. I replaced that with the less expensive on/off type and it's been fine for ~10 years.

Seaflo makes some nice pumps that eliminate cycling with no required accumulator due to design. Nice units that do not break the bank. Here is a video showing the cycling issue that are commonly found when no accumulator is used. This is 3gpm which is more than sufficient for our boats.
