Surface Piercing Drives
So what did you think, should I invest in surface piercing drives on Midnight Sun?

Holy cow! There was a lot of Shoreline that went by in that short video! That's amazing, I've never seen those in use before. Totally cool.

Geez! That was a real rooster tail! Go for it, and let us know when we can see Midnight Sun skipping over the water. I would make the trip to see that!

I think I cover as much distance in an entire day compared to what he covered in 3 minutes! Amazing how just 1/4 or so of the prop is pushing the boat when trimmed for peak performance. They must be very efficient with almost 0 drag. Unfortunately you need to go rather fast to use them to their full extent.Alaska 530 Voyager wrote:QR_BBPOST Holy cow! I think that I've seen images of this propulsion system on a junk in the mekong delta. I'm not sure how well they would work on a 10 ton boat!

Hahaha!!! That's awesome! I once heard that a true speed boat has only one blade touching the water at a time. Not sure if there is truth to it. Makes sense after seeing this concept tho. Cool stuff but that guy was crazy, not even wearing a life jacket. I'd have fallen out and ran the prop over my backside, haha!

Interesting set-up. Kind of noisy though.

Re: Surface Piercing Drives
Had a customer with triple Arneson surface drives. I got to work on them. Definitely a whole new ball game. You learn a lot about them when the customer nearly rips them off after hitting bottoms $$$. Loved doing the sea trials after repairs.
