Insurance?

Postby mjk1040 » May 14th, 2019, 1:19 pm

Ok all, been with Foremost Insurance for 4 +/- years at a fair price I thought for 2 boats for under $600.00/year. Agent just called and said the renewal was going to be just under $ 1,000.00 a year! WTH! Agent suggested I go look because she couldn't offer anything better! FYI, She's a very good agent, so good I have to buy her and her husband dinner every year. Progressive thus far is the best price I've seen for 2 boats and a PWC just under $ 800.00. Waiting for a quote from NBOA and US Boat/Gieco was around $1,400.00. We have to carry $300,000.00 Liability at the marina, but I didn't see the pollution rider on the Progressive policy that's usually around $1M coverage. Where's the best rates fellow Boaters?

Hey Mike,
On one of the threads last year, I went with an agent and company that has mentioned. It worked out well so far and saves a good deal of money over BoatUS/Geico. I boat downstate New York.

American Insurance Company.

COVERAGE
Agreed Value of Vessel: $103,000.00
Premium: $869.00/yr
$300K Protection/Indemnity
Medical Payments: $20K
Personal Effects: $15K
Emergency Towing: $3,500.00
Rental Reimbursement: $2,500.00

I also have an umbrella policy for 1M which has the boat listed on the policy and offers additional protection.

The broker is:
Phone: 206-273-6996
ANCHOR MARINE UNDERWRITERS INC-9999
2731 77TH AVE SE
MERCER ISLAND, WA 98040-2800

They may have some options for you. Good luck.

Check out SafeCo. I have used them in the past. They can sometimes offer good rates.

I also have markel been with them a few years but I usually check around just in case. They've beat every one on equal coverage so far.

I am with Progressive for 2 reasons. 1. I had a total loss claim and they were excellent with processing. 2. Rates are very good. Just got me renewal and they dropped my premium by $80. I do go through an insurance agent, because they do have an agents channel of communication that is a higher priority and direct. 8-) er

I Progressive for YEARS and used it for the boat and the PWCs. Decent coverage and good price, and they also included a towing package (required for the PWCs, but it also came with the boat coverage).

I let it expire by accident one year and I called to renew.... they DOUBLED the price. I renewed but then shopped around and found that Boat US (just prior to Geico) offered me basically the original rate I had been paying at Progressive, so I switched and cancelled the Progressive policy. I'm still with them now that they've converted to Geico. The PWCs are still on Progressive though, as they had a much lower premium. You'd think that I'd get some good discount on putting them with my boat policy with Geico but it doesn't work out that way.

Progressive has the best rates so far, but I can't get the agreed on haul value I They'll give me half what
I want though. I'll check out some of these other companies, Thanks All!

Just to add to the discussion:

Progressive quoted $3600 today for my 84 36', crazy.
Foremost wouldn't quote because of age and neither would Travelers.

Looks like I'll be going with BoatUS/Geico at $1500 per year, which still seems like double what it should be.
Thanks,
Ben in SC
