Hello from the Fingerlakes

Post by Tigermaple »

Hello, I have been lurking here for several weeks and thought it was time to introduce myself. My name is Pat and I took the plunge on a 1993 Carver 300. It has 350 Crusaders with 850 hours, and a lower helm. Had a 23 foot tritoon which we enjoyed but wanted more boat and a place to get out of the weather. I've had her about a month and so far so good. I like her size for the lake (Cayuga) and rivers near us. During my search I heard some bad stuff about Carvers, mostly related to a single review years ago. But after seeing so many older Carvers still in operation and good shape I figured it would be alright for my needs. I welcome any input, Thanks

Welcome to the forum Pat. If that is the review I am thinking, it was about a very specific boat and there aren't many that survive hurricanes being beaten to a pulp.... :-O
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Welcome aboard.
If I had something I disliked, I would get rid of it and get something else. I'm on my third Carver.
Thanks

Welcome Aboard. Carver makes a pretty nice boat. Mine is an old girl, an 81. She's doing OK for her age. Good luck with yours.

Welcome to the community Pat, glad you finally chimed in. Sounds like you're going to have a great summer this year, hopefully Mother Nature will change the way she's doing things :banghead:

Look, let's face it, there is no such thing as a "perfect" brand or model of boat. EVERY brand and model has it's pros and cons starting from conception to production. One must also consider that after a vessel leaves the factory, it's longevity will depend on the conditions in which it is stored, used, and most importantly how it's owners over the years maintain it. For the same brand, model and year, you can't condemn the rest because of a few reviews, there's just too many variables affecting their condition after a one or more owners.

Nice model you have, congrats  Oh, and did I tell you we like pictures here ;-)

Thank you for the replies, keep them coming, I have a lot to learn about big boats. This forum is packed with great info, I 've already saved time and money reading posts here. Questions are coming. I will post pics when I have her spruced up some more.

Welcome to the forum! You need 4 champagne flutes, a bottle of the bubbly, and a scripted toast to the Gods! Be sure not to expose the new name till the toasts are made. The flutes will end up at the bottom, but then you will be safe. Good luck. Regarding the reviews, if you are referencing the review written by David Pasacoe, may he RIP, that review was based on a hurricane damaged boat, in Florida, and comparing it to a Bertram. While his comments on the hull were very concerning, his comments on the Crusaders were very complimentary. You have a great vessel! And that is really low hours on the Crusaders. 8-) er
