Slow drains on a 2000 396 Aft Cabin
I need advice on fixing slow drains in the aft cabin head for both the sink and shower. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would think your shower drains to a shower sump under the deck somewhere, but the sink drains directly overboard. Do they both drain to the sump?

we use our aft shower pretty often. I have to open it up and clean it at least twice a year. It quickly becomes clogged with hair and soap. The sink should go directly overboard with its own thru hull. Maybe spiders or wasp nest slowing it down?

Also, see if you can follow the hoses for the drain... you just might have a kink somewhere along the line.

If you have a wet dry vac......suck out the drains from outside the hull, then flush......probably some wildlife in there...
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Assuming they both go into a shower sump you need to service it at least once a year. The float switch gets fouled and the pump/lines/box get rather disgusting. This year I popped out the old pump and float and replaced with new, works perfectly.

Follow up to Hans comment, ....when you replace the float switch, you probably want to use the Atwood low profile model for 2 reasons. 1. It is a quality product. 2. It stays under the hair filter and turns on when it needs to. I learned the hard way. Bought a "universal" switch and it puked out in one season. Spend the extra $12, it's worth it!

So where is the shower sump and how do I removed the shower drain? Also, where is the sink outlet? Thanks.

The shower sump is most likely under the floor just outside the aft head.
For the sink, turn on the water and look outside the boat and see if you see the water running out of a thru hull near the sink. If not it may also run into the sump.

You don't need to remove the shower drain, just find the sump, open it up and clean all the nasty hair, soap and mold out of it. Put the cover back on and you will be good for a while.
