Need Info re Head on 1993 300 Sedan

Post by Dusty Bilges »

Help again, please. What a great forum for a guy with a new-to-me boat!

My bride is staying on the boat up on the Canadian border and I'm a couple hundred miles south and get a call from her; the handle on the head's pump broke off. I am hoping I can go up there before next weekend and hopefully just replace the pump or top of the pump. All I know is that it appears to be a Raritan, but I don't know which model. I attached two photos she frantically took a few minutes ago.

Anyone knows which model it is? Anyone know if you can just buy the pump unit and not the whole head?

Any help highly appreciated.

Dusty

That's the same model I have. It's the PHE-II, I believe.

you can rig something to that metal rod and just pull it up and push it down to pump. Won't be the most convenient, but it will work. The linkage they have there just gives you some leverage (which is also why it's easier to break).

That little bolt hole in the side is where the electric motor option linkage bolts to the plunger to do the pumping for you.

You could also make a replacement fairly easily. THe only reason that's more complicated is so that it has a removable handle. If you didn't need (or want) to remove the handle you could just fabricate a handle out of a 1' long piece of stock.... you could probably use a hardwood like Oak, some strong plastic or even a section of aluminum. You just need to drill two holes for the pivots.

Thanks, KM! Just found a source for parts. Entire pump set up for $289 or entire head for $349.

Get parts #1211PL and #1210. Not uncommon for those to get brittle and break. Unless there's an issue with the pump housing such as scoring inside, get a rebuild kit. They are completely rebuildable and worth it IMO. Used to have them in a previous boat. Good toilet.

I believe the "E" in the model number PHE-II stands for the electric version. Same toilet and pump but with a couple of brackets that hook up to plunger instead of the handle.

Thanks! My bride just called me and told me to buy a new head and a new refrigerator. I'm still about an hour ahead, i.e., engine time versus fixing-up-the-boat time, which is better than the ratio for my cabin that I just sold so I could buy a boat. Anybody reading this know the make and model of the fridge for a 1993 300 Sedan?

Have her take a pic of the make and model tag. Should be inside the door unless someone removed it.

Make sure you check the existing fridge install dimensions to compare to the new one. The old Norcolds were pretty compact but anything newer was at least 1" deeper. I had to trim out my cabinet when I replaced the fridge the first time.

And buy the aux cooling kit.
A buddy bought 2 new Norcolds in one year. Learned about the cooling kit after the first brand new one burned out.
Thanks
