Latest plans and projects, last year the AC was not keeping the boat cool enough on hot days, too much cabin glass and too few AC BTU's. bought a new 12k BTU unit to replace the old 9K BTU unit. Bought a roll of window tint film to do the cabin windows, I will buy a roll of less dark tint film for the windshield, hopefully the combination of film and BTU's will cool down my cabin on the hottest days on next years big trip! Old unit removed and new unit ready to start the install , had to replace the cooling water supply hose with larger dia., not fun as existing hose would not pull out so had to snake new hose from main cabin to sea strainer/pump in engine room, done! A few hours of duct work, mounting hardware , wiring and new thru hulls and I will be done with AC!

No 2019 trip due to unplanned shoulder surgery, I was planning to go down the ICW to Norfolk Va., my plan for 2020 was to tow boat to Norfolk , launch and cruise to Florida and back. Well I now have a new plan, I plan to leave my Yacht club on the Hudson river and cruise to Florida and back. I hope to do allot of museum time in the Williams-burgh Va. and Norfolk areas. I am planning this just like I was planning this years trip, my father used to say, "if you want to make GOD laugh , tell him your plans" !! So we will see what happens next year, BUT I am planning and getting ready for my trip now! Trip should be a minimum of 3000 miles and 10 to 12 weeks, running 5 days a week averaging 50 to 60 miles a day, at 10 mpg I will burn approx 300 gallons of diesel for the Yanmar and another 50 gallons for the generator, estimating 250 hours of use for AC, 1/2 load on gen powers AC and refrigeration and uses .2 GPH !

Just kidding!! Sounds like a fun trip and made even more enjoyable because you don't have the huge fuel bills to anticipate!! I'm jealous!!

KM I am looking forward to the trip, BUT I just spent 10 hours on my knees installing the new AC unit and I am NOT done, I am just replacing a similar size unit, too much work for a cooler cabin, I better get to use it next year! This project is one of many that's why I am getting some of the big jobs done now!

NOW as far as MPG, my last boat did well and got 1.25 mpg at 10 mph, I paid my dues !!

I can relate to the A/C work. I'm just finishing up retrofitting A/C and heat into my aft cabin which never had it. Did a bunch of customizing that I would have never paid (nor could have afforded to pay) someone else to do, as it would have added lots of $$ to the costs.

If you need any parts for your A/C installation, let me know. I have tons of leftover parts (various hoses, grills, etc)

Thanks KM, I just bought the final parts, (grills and various hose fittings today at a Ganda mountain store that is going out of business near me , but the offer is appreciated! Got side tracked today but should finish the AC by the end of the weekend if all goes well!

Well I hope all members are doing well, no trip last year due to shoulder surgery, this year I had to schedule for other shoulder job, now cancelled because of the virus. So hope to get shoulder done over next winter and do a round trip to Florida summer of 2021, Stay safe folks! And stay home!
