Water Tank Plumbing

On my 81 3007 aft cabin, there are two water tanks, one port and one starboard.

My starboard tank was disconnected at some point for some work on that engine. The question is, how are these tanks plumbed and connected together? It almost looks like the inlet Ys off to fill both tanks, and the draw from the pump also is Y'd to draw from both tanks???? Am I wrong?

Any help in how this is supposed to be plumbed would be helpful.

Hopefully somebody can answer you, but I'd also guess they would have had to own another boat just like yours.

Have you attempted to trace the lines back from the faucets to see where the get their supply from? You may need a flashlight and one of those mirrors that extend out.

As for the fill, I would guess there would be just one. My current boat has three tanks it appears, and only one fill.

But since my first Carver, I don't use on board water. I hook it up to dock water. The water goes bad in the tanks and if you don't stay on top of it and use it often, it starts smelling weird, which means something must be growing. Plus, at 7 pounds or so a gallon, no need to be dragging 500-700 pounds more weight around.

Mine is not equipped (yet) for dockside water hook up, but will be soon. I actually like some weight below as my 260lbs on a fly bridge needs some ballast;-)

If your water smells bad, add a bit of Clorox bleach...just a bit...like a tablespoon for 30 gallons. Run all the faucets wide open until you can detect a little bleach smell.

Gets all the yuckies out of the tank and lines.

Each of these tanks are about 45 gallons...I don't really need or want to carry 90 gallons of water. What do you think of turning the one not used now into a holding tank? The holding tank is only 20 gallons. Wouldn't mind having a 45 gallon holding tank.

I have absolutely no idea on how that would be plumbed. I don't see why not though. Maybe raritan or one of the other companies can help.

I am surprised you are happy with 45 gals fresh water. I have 70 and its not always enough, but I do like my morning shower. I can certainly relate to the increase in holding tank though. I have two 18gal tanks with seem to fill too soon. I think the difficult part would be changing to inch and a half fittings for the sanitary hose's. Your best bet would be to talk to a marine sanitation systems store in your area. I know of one in Seattle but I would think you could find one closer.

I did a little research and it is just too much trouble to convert. I thought fittings would all be there for either water or holding and it would work, but I guess not.

Now if anyone has a 3007 aft that can shed some light on how it is plumbed, that would be great.
