Early winterizing , yikes !!!

Well the old gas got removed and the power wash guys were there , all is well so far. On the other hand this once a week wash is very inconvenient for people tarping their boats, as a good number can only come up on weekends. We will be glad to put this year behind us based on the upgrades and money spent ... vs the actual use.

Engine winterizing not done yet, fingers crossed we will not have a big cleanup after that, this year......

Here's a hot one....got email from marina wanting to know if I wanted the two spin on fuel filters changed .....wait for it....for the princely sum of 240.00 cad plus filters , plus tax..... .. ...its for two engines don't ya know.

Good grief !!!... and they can't figure out why people do their own stuff.....

Those marina prices definitely get scary at times. Wait till you get the price of the filters.

Fuel filters are not my friend. The Volvo Penta fuel filter is about $65 and I decided to change them myself for the first time, since I bought the boat. Could not get the Starboard one off, so channel wrench to the rescue. There is also a plastic water sensor that screws onto the bottom of the filter that attaches to a wiring harness and then to a warning system.

Well, plastic on metal, do you see where this is going. Yes stripped for sure and not able to get it off . Took it to my friendly Volvo Penta parts store and learned that 1 out of every 10 of these sensors strip when changed by a tech. They always have them in stock, I am told. That was $141.00 including tax. So my cost to install this new filter my self was approx. $206, for one side. I haven't gone after the Port side as yet, it's against the wall. This is not a complaint, it is merely an experience and a lesson on how sensitive the plastic sensors are, so don't turn them too tight when installing them, or turn them the wrong way when taking them off. Righty tighty, lefty loosey.

Looks like we may do a last weekend. Time to start thinking about oil/filter changes not to mention other winterization stuff. Will start looking for deals on the pink stuff. Was a good season I must say even though we were in repairs for 47 days. Good news is the repairs seem solid in every way

I did have 2 Volvo filters come with the boat which I used the first year. After this I went with the Sierra brand which I have been using for many years on my previous boats. The brand is well known and respected throughout the industry. These filters are available through Amazon.ca at a much better price FYI. Thanks. A lot more reasonable in price. I assume the sensor also screws on the bottom of this filter, unable to see the bottom in the picture.

As for the sensor, I have learned that you have to be very careful it doesn't strip.

Yes there is the same tapped hole in the Sierra filter to accommodate the sensor.

Well the winterizing went good, clean bilges etc.....good job, what a relief to not have to vacuum then go and complain about something...

As far as those filters, Tireless, who knows who reefed that on in the first place, now that you have done it properly you should be good in the future.

The power washing, not so sure.... hmmmm....seems there is some antifouling colors below some boats now......hmmmm
