JC3, the keel may be 12", however if you notice the props are in a semi tunnel in the haul. My suggestion would be to be on board if you do a wet trial and ask to take the helm at idle and draw your own conclusions. Or ask to ride along with an owner of the model your are considering. Its not like you have never piloted a twin screw before! Every season I try to get the admiral to learn to pilot the boat in and out of the marina, just in case something should happen to the captain. With the 355 haul design she can pretty much steer the boat into the marina with a 45 degree and 90 degree turns at the entrance.

Mike, That is a great suggestion that I will most certainly do. Going on a boat looking for tour mid April. Wish me luck and again thanks for the help! JC

Just bought a 1990 3297 Mariner after a good search. Not my first Carver, but my first with inboards. I am finding she handles like a real lady around the dock, keep in mind you cannot see the stern from the helm!
Best of luck on your search.

JC3 - seeing as this post started in March of 2018, what was the result. Did you buy a Mariner? Had I seen this post back then, I would have responded. I have a 330, bought it in April of 2018. Love the boat. Only had 313 hrs on Crusader engines, and passed the mechanical survey with a "like new" rating. ( If I did not buy the boat, the mechanic wanted to buy it ) My experiences have all been good ones, and I have had 2 parties offer to buy her, after they visited. I had an Express style boat prior to this one, and cruised at 30 MPH. The only thing I needed to get used to was cruising at 18MPH, but that is fine with me. Getting all the added space, and having a bridge to expand my view was totally worth it!
Mike, welcome to the forum! Great place to hang out during off season, especially.

Mike - are your inboards a straight shaft or V-drives? I love my V-drives.
