TV help for 1996 355 aft cabin
Hi just purchased a 355 aft cabin, our first boat. Would love some suggestions as to what kind of TV to put in the main room (parlor???), pardon my newbie ignorance. Was wondering if anyone has done a projection tv? where? where did you put the screen?
Open to all ideas. Previous owner removed all TV's and a lot of other stuff before we picked it up.
would love to see photos.
Thank you.

Plum;
I have seen folks place a larger flat screen on the countertop that divides the galley from the salon, on top of where the fridge is. Of course that would need to come down when under way if not mounted properly.
I have also seen people mount a flat screen on the face of the TV cabinet where the original tube TV was located. Thats if your model has the TV cabinet beside the stairs going into your state room.
The previous owner probably did you a favour by taking the tube TV's out. They were too small.

Re: TV help for 1996 355 aft cabin
Why in the world would you want to mount a projection TV? Or did you mean to say flat screen?
I have a 356 and the previous owner took out the old CRT TV. He then mounted some kind of plastisized board just inside the TV cabinet and then mounted a 19" flatscreen to that. When we bought the boat, we replaced that TV with a 24" smart TV. 24" was the absolute biggest we could go because we need to access the 4 screws that hold that board to the cabinet. I'm sure with some engineering, a bigger TV could be mounted there, but too much bigger will get in the way of accessing the aft cabin.
We're very happy with what we have

We simply put a 24" tv on top of the TV cabinet after removing the old TV. You could go bigger if you want, but a 24 serves our needs and doesn't over power the space. Also with the tv on top of the cabinet, it is much easier to view as you are not looking down at it, and can turn it towards the dinette when needed.

Just an FYI, I didn't fasten the TV to the cabinet. It just sits on the top. Unbelievably it has never fallen over while underway.
For the aft cabin we removed the original TV and installed I believe a 22" on a swing mount that covers the space and can swing out to access the really big space behind.

Same here Tom, I didn't fasten the one in the salon, it just sits on the counter. When we run into rough seas we simply put it on the floor between the sofa seat and cabinet.

Re: TV help for 1996 355 aft cabin
For years I did not have my aft cabin set mounted. Just put it on the stand on the cabinetry. Never even took it down while we were cruising as it seemed very stable.
One day, while sitting at ANCHOR, some nutcase idled by and then hit the throttles to get up on plane while he was right by us. Rocked my boat harder than I can ever imagine and knocked the set off the cabinetry, yanking the RF port right out the back.
I was able to repair the connection, but then mounted it on a swing out bracket a bit higher. Freed up the counter space and is much better for viewing while in the berth.
I was thinking about the situation you guys have (have a friend with a 356 and similar setup on his tv) and wondering if putting a strap with a couple snaps might keep it in place while up on the top of the cabinet.

I have a 92 330 and put my tv on the counter above the sink.
