Hello everyone:
New to the group and just purchased a 2000 Carver 396 in Chattanooga and will be bring the vessel upstream to home base in Knoxville. The boat has what I believe to be the original equipment chart plotter a SIMRAD CP 30(?). I am wondering if anyone has replaced such a unit and if there might be a "plug and play" replacement. Not looking forward to a whole system replacement but any experience or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any thoughts on the matter.
New owner / SIMRAD replacement?

Re: New owner / SIMRAD replacement?
Welcome aboard!
Can't help you with Simrad though. Is this a stand alone gps, or is it integrated into an entire all-Simrad system - radar, autopilot, etc?
If it's stand -alone, you can replace it with whatever you'd like.
If it's part of an all-Simrad package, you may lose some functionality if it's a dedicated system.
If you have multiple brands, and they do communicate with each other, than again, you can replace it with whatever you want, and connect into the NMEA 0183 network.
Good luck with your new boat!
