Anyone here caught up in this Crates disaster?

Postby Makin Waves » January 10th, 2015, 2:19 pm

I hope things turn out ok for all the boaters that have boats moored at Crates

I think he's referring to a covered marina fire this past week. Every boat under the canopy burned up.
Probably the result of a boater running a space heater to keep the boat warm.
Thanks

No.

He is talking about the bankruptcy of what was Carver's largest dealer and one of the oldest and largest Marina operators in Canada.

Crates went into receivership late October. Their boat sales side gone, and all of their marinas locked up.

On the boat sales side, they represented Carver, Cruisers and Pursuit. On the Marina side they had 3 operational and one newly built/under construction. If I was to guess I would say all the marinas would house an average of 4-500 boats EACH.

There potentially could be a pile of people without a home for their boat next spring, and/or having to pay their slip LEASE again as any monies paid prior would be gone.

Steve (After Taxes, 36 Mariner) has has boat moored in one of the Crates Marinas - he can elaborate better than I can.

I was at the Toronto Boat Show yesterday and saw Crates Lake Country now has Cruisers, Pride Of Muskoka is now operating Lagoon City Marina. Who will be the new Carver Marquis dealer?

Is that confirmed to be factual that Pride of Muskoka has taken it over? I heard yesterday (at the show) another family was about to take it over.

That's a smart move for the Pride group then. Good to hear.
