86 3207 what is the power plug on Port side?
Hi All,
Sorry another 3207. Have a signed contract on a 86 3207 Aft Cabin. Plan to sea trial soon but I am puzzled what this power plug is for on the Port side? It does not appear factory to me. Both 30a shore power cords are also plugged in on the Stbd side in the factory location. Any ideas?
Thanks!!

You will need to ask the owner or investigate on your own as this certainly seems like an add on.

Unless the pic is deceiving, that looks to me like a 15/20 amp inlet typically seen on smaller boats. The cord looks like a 15 amp cord and the plug on the far right of the pic is a 15 amp plug. I've never seen that as an OEM install and am wondering what its purpose would be and how it's hooked up to the ship's AC electrical system. Were it an outlet, I could maybe see a reason for having that option but not an inlet, you already have 2 unless the previous owner wanted additional power for something. You should check how that circuit is controlled and ensure the it is hooked up properly and is safe.

Definitely need a better pic. I have a friend with a 3007 and he added a second inlet on the port side so depending on his docking situation you could connect to shore power on either side of the boat. This should be done with a switch to select which input you want to use. If it was a 30A inlet, then this might be a possibility.
But, as midnightsun says, you need to figure it out and even if the prior owner tells you what it is, I would want to fully inspect it to know it was done safely.

You mention a sea trial but no mention of a survey. A survey is HIGHLY recommended and the surveyor can probably figure out what this connection is for if for some reason you can't get the info from the current owner.

It looks like a 15 amp power receptacle to me. If so, may be handy to plug in polisher, power washer or other device. Surely to god the PO would tell you what it's for, he probably installed it. I had a 3207 and that plus is not factory...

Have to determine if it's and outlet or and inlet. An outlet would make sense to me to power tools etc.

Well we figured out that it is a separate dedicated circuit for the bilge heater.

If that was mine I would have it checked by an electrician experienced in marine wiring. Any improper modifications to a boats electrical system can have unfortunate results. Good Luck with the sea trial and survey.
