89 3607 Aft Head Blower
Everyone was very helpful with my question about upper helm access, now I have the next problem.
With the switch on the main power panel on, when I go to the aft head and turn on the blower switch, the breaker in the main panel turns off. I get it, there is a short somewhere and I'm hoping it's the blower motor. The only problem is, with no blower motor noise, I don't know where it is.
The front head blower is in the bilge/engine room, so I look in there. Don't see anything obvious with the exception of a blower tube coming from the port side, going across to midline and hanging down from the floor (top of engine compt)
Is this the right tube or should I look elsewhere. Just where is that blower supposed to be?
Thanks for your help.

Re: 89 3607 Aft Head Blower
Where is the inlet grill for the blower?
On my 355 its on the rear wall by the head. the blower is mounted to the back of the wall. To access it looked like I had to disassemble the wall panel, but found that removing the transom shower I could get to it. I guess my point is it may be in the cavity between the interior rear wall and the outside hull of the boat.

Re: 89 3607 Aft Head Blower
There is a small grill in the shower mid height on the forward wall. I believe it goes to the prevoiusly decribed duct that goes down to the engine compartment. The wall of the shower is the rear wall of the salon. The space this duct occupies is on the outside hull just rear of the port fuel tank. I think the shower location on a 355 is different.

So Tom, ur aft head has a blower? Ours has the AC blowing thru it and no head blower as in the forward head? Yet we do have the aft blower breaker in the 12 volt panel!

Winegrape, if that's the vent hose you followed and it wasn't connected to anything, is there wires hanging nearby? Maybe someone removed the fan and planed to replace it?

Re: 89 3607 Aft Head Blower
I'll have to take a better look at it, but on first look I didn't see any. I did take the switch out and there is a 2 conductor wire with the red split out to go thru the switch. I found it odd that Carver would run all that wire from breaker panel to head switch and then back to the engine compartment in a big loop. Why not 2 conductors to switch and back instead of 4.
Thanks for the help,
Will

It should be a blank and red to the switch, with the red being switched, than the black and red to the fan. Its not a loop, so to speak, more of a straight line with the switch in the middle, if you know what I mean.

Re: 89 3607 Aft Head Blower
Hurray, found it! I was mistaken, the duct does not go to the engine compartment. It goes straight forward and is accessible through the panel in the back of the salon cabinet. As the photo shows, wasps have decided this was a good place to live. Anyway, problem solved.

Re: 89 3607 Aft Head Blower
Too bad I missed your post earlier, I could have pointed that out. If you look on the port side of the hull, you'll see the exhaust grates for both the blowers and he blowers are mounted just inside, the fwd one being just like the aft one.
My aft blower motor bearings wore out and did the same thing that you have... hit the switch and the breaker pops. I pulled the motor apart and cleaned and greased the bearings and got a few more years out of it before it went bad again - this time with a squealing sound.
Is that a mud daubber nest there? I found a few of those when I pop those access covers off in the spring. Glad to find them then rather than in the middle of the summer!
