Spring prep
Today, with the first full day of Spring, I start my polishing process of PartnerShip. It'll be 3 steps this year, plus wax. I'll post pics if it turns out as good as I hope it does...not that she needs a lot, but who doesn't want a boat that looks new? Last season she looked really good...this season, she should have the depth and shine of new (or better). For anyone wondering, I am using all 3M products except for the wax...Imperial compound, Perfect It 2, and Finesse it 2, finishing with Mequires Flagship wax.

Re: Spring prep
I will following this one.
I bought a 2001 350 Mariner last season. Before delivery last year the dealer hauled the boat out and did a beautiful job on the hull. So, I expect this year I will only have to wash and wax.... am I correct or do I have to do other steps?

It depends on the condition. If fresh water boating a wash and wax may be all you need.

Re: Spring prep
I did 2 of the steps today on the hull and she looks beautiful. Unfortunately, she isn't photographing as good as she looks, so I may not be posting any pics.
As far as "having" to do that many steps...most likely not, but I'm a little anal compulsive about how ours looks, so I do these steps every year. The payoff is, that with our previous 1988 2757 Montego, people thought she was only 4 or 5 years old! Obviously, styling was dated, but condition wise...like new.

Re: Spring prep
I'll be looking at these pictures too. I opted out of the $1500 I was quoted to compound and wax the hull of our new (to me) 38. I'd like to give this a shot myself. I'll take any advice out there.

Re: Spring prep
Washopay, condition of the gelcoat will dictate what steps you'll need to do. If it has a shine to it, start with 3M Imperial compound, then follow up with 3m Perfect-it 2 and finish with 3m Finesse-it 2. After those steps, use a good marine wax (marine waxes, although similar to automotive waxes DO last longer when in the elements continuously...I tested this where I work). I use Meguires Flagship wax and it does a phenominal job!

Re: Spring prep
Prepare for sore arms!
Using a machine on two sides of a 38 will be a workout.

Re: Spring prep
Thanks for feedback and product tips on this.... speaking of machines, what have you found to be suitable or is this all elbow grease.

Re: Spring prep
Makita. Hand rubbing will not work. But at least a few wool pads as well.
Maybe the final wax coat you could use a da type poison polisher though
