water flow

We have a situation similar to the one Smoken recently posted. When on marina water we have good pressure & flow on all faucets & showers. When we switch to the ship system, there is a dribble at faucets & showers. We replaced the pump over the winter. Checked all faucets/shower heads for debris. All clean.

You do have water in the tank right?

You may have a blockage in the line between the cutoff for shore water and the tank. Did you replace the pump with the same flow rate? Also, try to turn off water source from shore, run the remainder of that water out of the lines, and then try the on board water. If you have shore water connected at the same time you are running on board tank, you could be creating a vapor lock condition.

Any chance you have an inline filter near your water pump? I found mine and it was really clogged up.

What is the spec on the new pump? They do vary and it makes a big difference on larger boats. Also make sure you have solid hose connections from the tank to the pump so you're not sucking air. I'm also assuming you installed a 12 volt unit and not a 24 volt one?

When I bought my last boat I had the same issue. Turns out there was an inline filter that was absolutely disgusting. Cleaned it three times and it clogged up within hours each time. I ended up dumping a gallon of bleach and a 10# bag of ice into the tank and took the boat for a cruise. The ice scrubbed the tank until it melted. I had to run probably 3 more full tanks of water to get all of the bleach out but never had a problem again. Pic below is of the filter. DISGUSTING!! I almost sold the boat..

No change in condition, mechanic hasn't showed up yet.

Will try to respond to everyone:
midnightsun - yes -full.

cooler - increased flow rate to 5 gph. Have tried disconnect/reconnect. Have not run shore water and pump at same time.

buster - filter is clean.

viper - spec is for 5 gph. connections solid. pump is 12 volt.

danpmart - no nasty filter.

Is the new pump a smart/electronic pump by any chance? They can do some strange things so I don't recommend them anymore.

I hope that increasing to a higher volume pump isn't overloading the wiring that might have been originally designed by factory to carry less of a load from the original pump. If that's the case, there will be a voltage drop and the pump won't run as it should. Will increase amperage though which might not be safe for the wiring if it's the wrong gauge for that circuit/new higher load.
