I use and swear by a two step process and get excellent results.

First step is 3M Imperial Compound with a polisher with a wool bonnet. Used at lowest speed until it gets worked in and then speed the head up a bit to remove the remainder of the product and wipe with a clean cloth. If there is still cloudiness in the finish, hit it again. You will be able to see the cloudiness in the finish if you wear polarized sun glasses. I just purchased a Dewalt Soft Start polisher and only use 3M double sided wool heads. I used it this spring and it works excellent.

For the second step, I use 3M Ultra Performance paist wax. I apply it by hand and I remove it by hand using clean micro fibre clothes. The trick is to remove the wax before it dries hard with the first rag and then buff with a second cloth and keep changing to a clean micro fibre clothes.

Carver gel coats will suck up the wax pretty good and if you let it dry it is harder to remove. I normally apply to an area and start to wipe it fairly quickly before it dries and prevents a large wax deposit that is hard to remove. I don't normally use a machine on the wax, not even an orbital. Its not required.

I always get a mirror like finish. Everyone has there own system and products, but this works for me.
