How does your 3227 handle?

Good evening all.

I’m curious to hear opinions from any 3227 owners out there regarding the handling characteristics of their boats.

How are they in chop, how far have you traveled in one. Have you ventured out for some deep sea fishing as their old brochure mentions?

Any and all thoughts on the 3227 Convertible are greatly appreciated.

I have a 3227 and find she handles well. Good boat in chop and I bought mine from the PO in CT that used it for offshore fishing quite a bit. The bow has a nice entry and there is good freeboard all around. Mine's on Lake Norman now, and although it can get choppy, it's nothing like running Oregon Inlet when the wind and tide are running. The lower station option would be more necessary if you plan offshore trips, as you might not want to be on the flybridge when the weather gets snotty. With lots of fresh water and fuel capacity, she is set up nicely for a longer cruise. With the twin 5.7 260 engines, she's not a speed demon - you won't see 30 knots in all likelihood - but she cruises well and has enough beam to keep her stable. The interior layout has about the best space utilization of any 32 footer. The one wishlist item if you are using a 3227 for fishing would be a bigger cockpit. It's adequate, but it ain't a Hatteras. Thank you very much for the reply. I’m not much of a fisherman so some room to fish is great, it would likely be more entertainment for kids.

I’d be using it in Clear Lake, Galveston Bay, and possibly the Gulf of Mexico without getting to far from the coast. Ideally I would be able to cruise my family to Florida one day but it may not be enough boat for that.



I’m pretty much set on a 3227 now and just need to see if
A.) My submitted offer gets considered on one local to me.
B.) figure out how to get one to Texas without another $6k-$10k in shipping fees.

I just bought my 89 3227 4 weeks and keep it on Lake MI. Just yesterday we were out in 3-4' waves not for long, but to get used to rough water as MI can turn quick. Other then a few loose things thrown around, I found it easy to maneuver and cut well through the waves. Two weeks ago my steering went out (Seals in the lower helm), out a half a mile from harbor and I was able to use the motors easily to get back safely, but with a few gray hairs...

We moved from a 30'' Sea Ray Weekended to the 3227 and love it.

Hi, I purchased my 3227 in 2012 and brought it up in February from Greenwich, CT to Boston, MA (winter in New England). A transit of about 210NM. We were in seas of about 10-15ft on the starboard quarter. Boat ran at 3000rpm all day long, and road those seas like a champ. Until we got to Cape Cod Bay, and a head wind and sea. Had to drop to about 8kts, and go to the inside steering station. Pounded some with the head sea, but still ran great. I love the boat, love it's style, the only thing I wish to change is the V-birth doesn't sit flat at the pier. It angles up with the bow, and I always find my self shifting aft as I sleep! I would love to see any modifications that any 3227 owners have made.
