Thermostat Help

Post by Jangocat »

Hi Group, I need to locate a couple of thermostats. These are for a Waukesha Ford 302's. The number on the stat is ST 358 170*. Can't seem to cross reference them with anything. Could possibly be a Barr CM-29-4142522 for a Chrysler if it is I'd like to find substitute because $129 seems to be a bit much. Up on researching some numbers it keep coming up for a early 318 Chrysler. Crossed over to PMC RP026001 ($108 + shipping) or NAPA THM 358170 ($41). Was wondering if someone knows anything more? Will know next week when they get to the store. Had a really good Assistant Manager who keep searching and based on the numbers on the old one we think that it's the same one. Fingers crossed. Jim

Here's the link to the one I bought.

Looks similar to the stats some Mopar marine units used. The base looks the same but I don't recall the topworks looking like that, could just be another version of it though.

Are you replacing them because they don't work? Have you tested them? Are the engines running too hot, too cold?

At 170 degrees, I trust this is a fresh water cooled engine (coolant), or a raw water cooled engine and that you're running her in fresh water?

It's a fresh water cooled engine (heat ex-changer). I had a really good NAPA guy and we tracked it down to an NAPA THM 358170. Seems to be a perfect match. The original was marked ST 358 170. Got it installed and went to start the engine to test but had a small malfunction. The starter went south. Just whirred and wouldn't engage. This a Ford starter. Pulled it and will test tomorrow. Jim
