Now the bad...my hydraulic steering fluid started leaking out of the helm. Checked fittings on other side, hoses, all check out good, so it is coming out of the helm pump as far as I can tell. The helm is the original, so probably needs replacement. Any suggestions on a helm brand? There are 3 hoses connected in back. Hope I can just swap out the helm without doing the whole kit. Thoughts?

Good news and bad news
First the good....a guy came into the store the other day with a new stainless steel, high gloss Danforth anchor. Asked if we could consign it and I said sure thing. Then he said OR, if you would just want to buy it, you can have it for $50. Geez, OK.

Re: Good news and bad news
Seastar 1.7 helm. The style will depend on the type of mount of your current one; front, rear, tilt, etc.
Have you determined where it's leaking from? Could be as simple as tightening a fitting or plug, or replacing a seal. Shaft seals are a common failure point. You can purchase a seal kit and reseal the unit. They're not that bad to work on.

Re: Good news and bad news
Thanks guys! The model in there is a Hynautic. Will the Seastar helm fit in? I did inspect the hoses in back and all were tight. The fluid is running down the face of the dashboard, so it must be coming from the unit.

Re: Good news and bad news
You could call on these guys for a rebuild of the hynautic as a option . Or purchase a seal kit to diy .

I rebuilt my unit with a kit that I found on-line and it worked out just fine. Cost of the kit was around $60 if I recall.

Re: Good news and bad news
I have not done mine yet but expect to have to at some point. Lots of other folks I know with newer boats have had to do it and say it's not hard at all, just remember where all the parts go when you take it apart. You can also buy the seals from a local vendor and I think they're less than $10. I'll look to see if I have the specs on them that he sent me.
