water pump

Post by rjr »

After disconnecting the marina water and turning the pump breaker on, the pump immediately starts. Similar to Marty's recent post but this is a new pump. The pump is pushing water, or trying to, into the hot water tank. The little collar on the pressure relief valve jingles. I tried running 2 hot water faucets, used the pressure relief valve, turned the breaker off and then on and the pump still ran.

I recently filled the tank to about 3/4 so I will check for debris at the filter.

Water systems can be a huge PITA.

Advice and/or comments welcome.

You have a valve open somewhere or a good leak in the system if the onboard water pump won't shut off. The only other possible issue mat be the pressure sensing switch is out of wack.

The pump will run until the hot water tank is full, and then the pressure will turn pump off. There may be a leak at the hot water tank, happens all the time, and therefore not allowing back pressure to build up enough to stop the pump. 8-) er

Ya you need to ensure first that your hot water tank is full as it will take just about all the water from the pump until it is. For it to fill though, you need to open at least one hot water tap to allow the tank to purge air while it fills. Once full, you'll get water out of the tap and the when you turn the tap off, the pump should stop. Has that been done yet? If not, try that first and let us know if the pump continues to run.
