New owner in Northern Ireland
Hello, all, I'm a new owner, along with my son, of a fairly old but sturdy Carver 2827 (1988) which came with two Penta TAMD31s. The previous owner had her for 15 years, here in Northern Ireland, and has looked after her well.
Some issues which are getting attention; smoky starboard engine, and a very stiff throttle on it, and the trim tabs aren't behaving. Those, and some upgrading of the electronics, will be attended to in coming weeks - a great pity it's the middle of the season here; so much time wasted by that damned virus!
She's in the marina at Ardglass which I used for my previous boat, a Fisher25; a lovely, small group of friendly people here, and a couple of decent pubs nearby. Her new name is Hornbill III (the Fisher was Hornbill II and the first Hornbill was a GP14 built by my Dad in c. 1957, and sailed at Tanga in East Africa.)
If there's anyone in the region who also owns a Carver, please get in touch; makes things a lot easier when someone has already found the sources for the various parts (I know about goldenarrow.co.uk, who have shown themselves willing to work through the crisis) ! Cheers, PaulC

Twin Diesels on a 28 Carver is very rare. Most likely repowered by a previous owner.
Welcome!

Pretty sure it's the other way around over the pond whereas gasoline versions are rare and diesel is the norm.

Yes, petrol engines are not popular here; the costs are very much higher than in your parts of the world; with diesel, we can use agricultural (dyed red) at half the price of the stuff in your car. The two engines in Hornbill III have 850 hours on them, so were probably put in relatively recently; the Volvo 2003T in my Fisher had 3500 hours on it, and that had been installed in 2005 - someone didn't like using his sails.tomschauer wrote:QR_BBPOST Twin Diesels on a 28 Carver is very rare. Re: New owner in Northern Ireland
Thanks for the welcome, but I have to say that I'm annoyed that my proposed name for my boat had already been taken; 'Escape Plan' was my original choice (I'm actually an old Tanganyikan Brit, trapped by a Northern Irish wife, who refuses to leave the blasted place for somewhere with more light and warmth. NI has a great deal of rain and cloud, and they have 'bars', not 'pubs' here, which pains my soul. They're friendly, though.
Still, at least I can dream; the Isle of Man isn't too far away, not that they're letting anyone in at the moment, the brutes...
