Does anyone know what this connection is?

Post by RussL »

The bottom is a capped Cable connection, but I don't know what the top one is. It has a single orange wire coming out the back?

The top one is for land line telephone, about as useful as 8 track tapes today. :-D the one with the white cap on it is for cable TV when offered at the docks, this is sometimes still available but again rather rare.

Thanks, that is what I thought it was but I had never seen a connector like that. What you are telling me is it can come out :D

I used the same location to install an auto water tank fill switch when connected to shore water. A little elaborate but works really well. Here is a link. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=3143&hilit=timer

I still have a brand new shiny yellow cable that came with the boat to fit that telephone plug, I keep carting it around hoping to find some use for it some day....... :-D
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

What, you guys don't use the land lines when your at the marina?
I remember back in the 80's and 90's that was a selling point for the marina to have land lines available at each slip. Well before cable tv was available at the slip.

Some guys still use the TV coax connection when they install satellite TV at their dock.

I use my noat cable inlet for my dish network feed from my sat dishes mounted at my slip. The receiver requires a straight run to the dish so just removed the splitters and reconfigured it a bit. Works great and made a easy solution for tv. I also have a new telephone cable in a bag too. Funny to think how stuff changes so quickly.
