Replace original bow thruster on 2004 Carver 36SS

Post by Myrisa »

Hi everyone, has anyone replaced their bow thruster on a 36SS? Having gear issues and trying to decide to rework them or instal new bow thruster. I have the QL BP 800 12 volt. No replacements.
Problem is the BP800 is more horizontal and I don’t have the room for a nice Sidepower as example. There is Easy access to the tunnel to open it up and place a new one in. Are their replacements out there? Has anyone managed to do this?
Thank you

Welcome aboard.

Have you actually contacted Imtra and discussed this with them? Try giving them a call or email them at info@imtra.com

They're really helpful and might have a solution for you. https://www.imtra.com/products/side-pow ... er-systems

If you need to install a new unit that would end up being too high for the space. Check to see if you have enough room to put it in there at a different angle. If there is room to do that, you can have a fiberglass technician patch up the current mounting hole for the QL leg and cut a new one to accommodate a new unit at a different angle.

Also, pretty sure one of the guys on here also had his gear rebuilt somewhere. Hopefully someone will chime in about that.

Thank you, yes I believe I have room. I see you can angle the side power or Vetus on their side which would really help. Maybe the smaller SE 60 12 volt would work best, it’s a little smaller than theSE 80 as example.

Contact Imtra and tell them the type of boat you have so that the unit/thrust is properly matched to your size vessel or you'll be disappointed the performance if it's underpowered.
