Fuel tanks

New owner of a 2006 CMY 41 I am wondering on a cruise with all four tanks full which ones are best to use first. It has two rear 50 gal. And two midship 130 gal thanks for any tips.

I prefer to use up the AUX (rear) tanks first to get the weight out of the ass of the boat. Not sure it really makes a difference. Make sure you do go through main and aux tanks to freshen up fuel during the season. Nice boat you have there by the way.

I also have 4 in my 405 and I also use up the aft tanks first, just what I've always done and also welcome

Carver will tell you to use the main tanks first. Reason being that you can control bow angle down with the trim tabs but if you remove the weight from the stern you can't put the bow up if needed like a following sea or an inlet. However, if you have a heavy tender on the stern it may make sense to drain aux tanks first.

When I am on a big crossing I always burn the aux tanks first. When on plane, fuel in the aux adds too much weight and causes the aft to drag, therefore impacting your speed. If I am not going too far, I prefer to keep the fuel in the aux's at a minimum. This is what works best in my 44 CMY.

I also prefer using the aft first. When taking a trip, I use aft to get to my destination and main to get back home. Good way to insure you are using your tanks equally.
