My Carver 2687 Project

Last week my brother and returned with the 1984 Carver 2687 boat I purchased and boy what a long ride that was. About 2200 miles round trip from Springfield, GA to Canyon Lake, TX. The boat itself is in really good shape other than the engine, but I knew that going into this deal. I got it really cheap and plus the couple I bought it from where going through a divorce. Repairing or replacing the engine is no real big deal for me since I'm involved in drag racing and do that sort of thing all the time. The exterior is in good shape as well as the interior, although a bit dated. Once I get done it will look like a new boat. As I progress I'll post all my changes and updates here. Right now it's too dang hot and I'm no spring chicken so I'm going to wait until the fall to start work.

Welcome and we like pix and projects. Take lots of pics with what you are doing!
Boat engines like to be a bit looser on piston skirt to wall clearances. For instance JE recommends 0.0015 for every inch of bore. Bearings also take a bit different clearance as well.
Boat engines are a bit different the drag cars engines. So be careful.

They're not all that different other than cam choices, cam timing, and cooling system. Piston clearance will depend greatly on the type of piston, whether it be cast, hypereutectic, or forged. I personally use JE's forged which is run loser than the others in all my race engines so I'm very familiar with them. We tend to run clearances on the lose side, rods and mains to .003/.0035", friction is a horsepower killer.

I'm finally in a position of where it is worth while to post some photos of my project. The replacement engine is just about ready to install. I just installed the freshwater cooling system and filled the block and heads with Evans Waterless Coolant. The last piece of that puzzle is to get the F.A.S.T. EFI system and installed that and fire it up on my shop floor.
