Trying to figure this out. By going with PleasureCraft engine plate(s) in our '76 Mariner '33 it appears I should have counter rotation 351 (5.8 std) engines with Both Warner/ Velvet Drive and 1:1 reduction. Here's where I get a bit blurry. Both engines have 4 BBL double pumper Holleys with electric choke, most things I've found indicate these were on the HO not the standard. Secondly the V drives are both Walters and the oil indicates in the fly bridge are both labeled Walter as well. Also the drives are obviously different models, best I can tell Port is a 20 series and Starboard a 26. Very well could of been replaced/updated at some point. Any thoughts or input is appreciated, we're bringing her back to beauty and just want to do it right.

You have 1 standard rotation engine and 1 counter rotator. Each Walter usually has a yellow indicator at the helm to let you know when you are at operating pressure. These lights come on when you're at idle and should go off when you're at about 1,000-1,200 rpm.

Do you have a question about this setup?

Another thing to check would be the numbers on the carbs.......do they have the vent tubes that are bent over back in the venturis ?.......should make sure they are the correct marine versions.

Viper, maybe I'm just not completely understanding about the "W" on the tag indicating Borg Warner/Velvet Drive, is that transmission as opposed to V drive?
Bud I'll have to look over the carbs better next time I go out to her, unless these pics can tell you anything.

By the looks of those pics it appears at least one is not marine.....can't see the older one with the painted bowl.....just get the model/list number off the carb base....maybe a tag is still there ?

With that number you can check the application to be sure.

Just remembered....list numbers on Holley models should stamped on the outside of the choke/airhorn, sometimes there might be a tag. Sorry for misdirect I was thinking of the Carters.

The thing about checking the list numbers....you never know how someone has modified carbs.. :-O ...I have seen many interesting things on used carbs over the years.

The Velvet Drives that are attached to the engines are the transmissions/reduction/reverse gears. Early Walters v-drives which I suspect is what you have are separate from the engine with a shaft and u-joints connecting them to the transmissions.

Well we finally got her in the water and limped her to our slip from the marina she was at. Port engine went reasonably well, started getting little hot when I was running around what I felt was 2500-2800 rpm, all gauges on port side read high for some reason, Tach never goes to 0 and volt meter reads around 15.5-16VDC, I physically checked voltage at battery with a reliable handheld and it was 13.3 so I know there’s something going on there.... Starboard side is my problem child, some sort f constant and relatively steady blowback in the carb on right side (facing front of engine), tried adjusting timing, minimal results, was starting right up though every time until I was entering into a lock at idle and she died out and wont start since. I was running primarily on Port only because I didn’t want to Hand Grenade starboard and every time she’d run just off idle the voltage would creep up to 16+ volts, so I was only using both for docking and slow maneuvering. 76’ Carver Mariner twin 351W been in dry storage for 3 years. So I’m thinking the Starboard is either/and a carb issue or valve not closing completely, rust/carbon build up. Any thoughts? You guys know these Ole’ Girls pretty well.
