Voyager Purchase

Hello. Brand new to this site. Previous owner of Sea Ray (1994 44 Express Bridge) and Cruisers (2004 455 Aft Cabin). Dissappointing experiences with both. Have been out of boating for the last 10 years as a result. Have always loved the look of the Carver Voyager Series and would be be curious about fellow member experiences with either the 570 Voyager (2001-2006) or the 560 Voyager (2005-2009).

Those listed on Yachtworld run the gamut in price from $400K - $550K.

As I understand during the production run there were 340 units built.
Questions 1) Fair price for reasonably maintained specimen
2) Those I see have between 500 and 1200 hours on Volvo Diesel engines which seems reasonable presuming they are 4000 hour engines. Fair assumption ?
3) Owner experiences.... Would you recommend this as a solid purchase

Welcome to the gang! While I can't speak directly to that model, I can provide a comparison for Carver / Cruisers. This pains me somewhat because an acquaintance of mine owns Cruisers. The Carver Mariner I have is built way better in terms of hull construction. Solid glass below water line and more above than most makes. Better thought out access to maintenance areas, much better comfort design. Connection of top deck to hull on Carver is very solid. Here is the caveat,...the first production year my friend owned the company was 1995. He was focused on bringing back a quality level that Cruisers had compromised in the 92, 93, & 94 production years, but could not do that in just one year. I am comparing a 95 Carver, to a 95 Cruisers I previously owned. I am 100% positive Cruisers continued to improve quality over the years, but so has Carver. I am not a Sea Ray fan as way too many of my friends have had issues that are not easy to overcome. Your assumption on diesels is accurate, but it is more about maintenance of PO than anything. I would recommend the purchase, knowing you are not buying a Bertram, Viking, or Hatteras. Carver value pricing is very real. Just look at how many Carver's are still in service. That says something. Welcome Aboard. Hopefully your less than sterling experiences will not color your views. I've always considered Sea Ray and Cruisers to be pretty good boats, so are Carver boats. Good luck finding the right boat for you.

Welcome. I own a 2004 560 Carver Voyager w/560 Volvo’s. Bought it 3 years ago w/500hrs brought it thru the Great Lakes to Ala. (1800mi) and the next year to the Bahama’s. Could not me happier. All issues have been minor and Volvos run great. Previous boat was a Sea Ray. Carver has lots more room inside. Good luck in finding what you want.
