Washing Machine - Replace or Repair?

Post by metjr1976 »

Hello all!

We have a 2002 564 CPMY and it has the Malber washer and dryer. The tub on the washer doesnt seem to engage and the prior owner (we bought the boat just a few months ago) said that they never used the washer. So, i am not sure if these are easier to repair or replace and was wondering if anyone else had this same issue before?

Thanks
~ Mike

I ve heard in rv and boat forums these combo units didn't really work that great. I've never had one but have looked from time to time for my rv. Is this something you are really going to need? Might use the space for something else.. Maybe there's better products now I'm sure they'll be some others chiming in.

An RV place should be able to get parts for it or an appliance repair shop. Having said that, do you want to put the money into a 20 year old unit that might fail again due to something else. If that something else causes a leak, you'll then have some cabinetry work to deal with which will likely be even more expensive than a new washer.

Considering it will not get through the stateroom door, I’ll try to fix it...

My Malber front load won’t pump out water. Anyone have any tips? It’s going to be a bear to remove. It’s blocked by the bed and won’t go through the door or up the steps! Ugh

Could be a number of things but main suspects are the timer, pump, wiring.

I had the same problem on my. Took the dryer out moved the unit sideways and pulled the washer out. The water pump inside has a plastic impeller on the drive shaft. There is a metal washer pressed on the end of the drive shaft. Over time the washer rusts off and the impeller will not turn. I used JB weld on the end of the shaft and gled the impeller on to it .Works like a charm. You also can get a standard magtag washer pump put the right hose fittings on it and tie strap inside the washer and that will work to.

Anyone have any suggestions on the likelihood of finding a repair person who should have knowledge of these Malbers? In other words, are they similar at all to other brands?

You used to be able to get parts thru a distributor in NY (no more).
I fear the day the washer or dryer finally breaks down. I am thinking to remove the unit you would have to take it out in pieces. Of course that means any new one you install would likely have to be broken down and reassembled in the bedroom.
