Those electric heads gobble power as previous poster said. IMHO sounds like the electric pump is on its way out.

These units draw a lot of juice, they work great in our experience but require a lot of voltage. Sometimes if we have been anchored up for awhile, we will have to start the engines to get the head working the way it should.( lights dim and little to no water flow coming in) House batteries are two 6V Trojan T 105's. Would be of interest the next time you try to use and it doesn't work, start your engines and then try. Almost sounds like at times there is not enough electrical power being supplied to the pump motor. May be the reason it works one time and at another not so much, house bank recovering.
cheers, Capt. Happy
That could be part of the issue. I have 2 batteries and 1 of them is on its last legs. When I flip on the battery switch to check the batteries battery 1 shows less than 12 volts and even with the battery charger on it still does not read 12 volts. The other battery is over 13 volts with the charger off and almost showing 14 volts with the charger on.
It certainly could be a low voltage issue. Since the season here is on its last legs I do not plan to buy a new battery until next year. No need for a new battery to sit though the winter. My last boat had 4 batteries and I ended up going with 4 deep cycle marine batteries. I saw no need for a "starting battery". How many CCA's do you really need to start a boat in the spring/summer/fall season. Its not like a car where you go out in the morning and its -10* and you need your car to start. We only use our boats in the warm months so a deep cycle battery with 600+ CCA is more than enough to start the engines.

Always a possibility. For the past couple of days everytime I push the button the head responds.

Re: I Am Glad To Come Aboard
I found another issue with the water line to the head unit. The way the water pick up line was installed whoever did the install created a large loop in the line above the waterline which I think is a good idea. The waterline was tied to a bunch of wires above the pickup point. The hose was bent and virtually choked off restricting the waterflow. I cut the tie and then cut the hose where it was crimped. I installed a 90 degree elbow where the hose was crimped and retied it. I then went to the head and flushed the head. It had a better flow then previously. At least for now I may have solved part of the problem. If this is the original electric head it probably will need to be replaced someday.
The more time I spend aboard this boat the more I like it. It has plenty of room for a 30 footer and I look forward to heading out. I have a boatclub function next week that I plan to cruse to for my maiden voyage in this boat.
Fingers are crossed that all goes well. As of yesterday (Thursday) I have fixed the little things that I felt needed attention before I started cruising in this boat. Let the fun begin.

Re: I Am Glad To Come Aboard
What brand/model head is it? Set up an ebay search for it and you may find some brand new parts pop up, cheap. If you are patient enough.
That's how I upgrade everything.

Yes I did. My last boat was a 1999 Bayliner 3055 Ciera Sunbridge. I had it for 12 years. Prior to that I owned a 1996 2855. I have actually owned 5 Bayliners during my boating years. This 3007 Aft Cabin is my 10th boat.

Re: I Am Glad To Come Aboard
I thought I recognized the name from my BOC days. I was Vazies Avanti way back in the day. I had a 3250 Avanti which I had for 5 years and then moved to a Silverton 41 Convetible and finally to my 506.

Yep, I was a BOC member for a lot of years but since I now have a Carver I joined this forum. I do remember your user name.

NICE boat Rick! That is a lot of boat for a 30'. One thing I am seeing is that the Carver's make use of every inch of space available. I can't wait to see what my 39 really feels like!
