Purchased our Carver 530 Voyager in December, currently in the Chesapeake. Just getting her out for a few excercise trips before we leave in May for Lake Erie.
Fantastic boat, the big Volvos are very strong. If there was a problem it is that even in idle the boat goes about 6 knots. I think the first owner changes the prps out for high cruise.
Come vist us at Cedar Point Marina!

Re: New to Carver and new to the group.
Welcome aboard, definitely a really nice boat.
I am not familiar with the characteristics of the 530 but 6 knots idle sounds awfully fast to me. Hopefully the previous owner owner did not increase the prop size as this can and will effect the engine longevity. You may want to have this verified or find out why it does 6 knots at idle. Heck, thats full out sailboat racing speed.

Congrats! Welcome aboard from an "also new to Carver" member. See you maybe on the Erie Canal as I will be taking my new-to-me C37 down from MI to its home at the NJ shore late next month!

Welcome aboard! Good luck with that fairway speed. I would be a little anxious, but I am sure you will do fine!

Re: New to Carver and new to the group.
That does sound like a very high idle speed. We had one Ocean boat with diesels in the marina and he was constantly going into neutral so his boat wasn't rocking around the rest of the boats in the fairway.
Other than the lakes that it interconnects through, is the Erie Canal all no-wake, or are there parts of it you can get up on plane?

Re: New to Carver and new to the group.
6 knts is about 11 km/h and I do that with about 1400-1500 rpm If I remember correctly. idling is around 700-750 rpm doing roughly 3 knts
I have 2 x 130 hp Volvo diesels with sterndrives.
in the marina I often turn one engine off, that helps a bit in speed. less in manouvering but I'm not that good at quick docking with more than idling engine(s) anyway so more thrust makes it go too fast for catching it in time by reversing thrust vector.
