Air purifier

Good day to one and all. Looking to get an air purifier for our boat to operate while we are not there. Is it worth it? Maybe to keep it from being stuffy while not there. Any suggestions or am I just wasting my time thinking this.

My wife uses the plug ins like air wick or frebreeze and also has a battery powered unit that kicks out a spray every once and a while. I will also put toilet tank tablets into the shower sump to keep that fresh as well.

Seems to work well for us. The boat has a fresh smell when I open it up after sitting closed up for a week between visits.

I guess you just need to pick the right scent, nothing too over powering.

You could also consider solar powered vents...they can pull air in or remove air to keep a flow of outside fresh air while the boat is dormant. Will require some instal planning though.

All good thoughts. The boat has no bizarre odor at all. Just looking for ideas on keeping the air flow fresh while away. Cool about the solar vents.

We are in a covered slip my wife also uses the plug-ins for the boat and house least she doesn't use any thats too "girly"

I usually drop 5 or 6 of those round plastic air fresheners with the holes in the top into all the bilge locations every spring. Not sure if it helps much but the boat never does smell closed in to my nose then again the wife thinks otherwise. Going to try this one this year.

The wife boat a Hepa Filter unit with a UV light a few years back. Its about 5" round and maybe 20" tall. We run it all season. Seems to work well.

I think is was about $65. I had to replace the UV lamp once, for about $8.

I use a dehumidifier in ours. I was using the small countertop ones and draining them into the sink. I bumped it up this year to a larger model. It really helps with the humidity and keeps things fresh. My marina doesn't allow for AC units to run when you aren't at the boat due to power consumption and risk of a leaky AC pump filling a boat. They are ok with a plug in dehumidifier though, so that's good.

When I bought my old Carver the first time I went down to the boat after I bought it there was an odor. Not a foul odor just an odor. I bought a box fan and I leave it running when I am not onboard and now there is no odor. I think that just moving the air inside reduces or kills any smells. I can see where adding one of those plug in units might help out a bit.

Lots of great ideas!!!! I think the best thing is to keep the air moving. We redid all the carpets and such, there is no smell to talk of, it's just to keep it smelling fresh. So, I guess the charcoal filters and a fan would do the job. I mean, these air purifiers, how do we know they work?
