Did Carver ever use LH rotation engines for both Port & Starboard power, with the Starboard engine having a reverse rotation transmission?
New to us 1996 370 Voyager
I was pulling plugs and marking wires at both the cap and plugs on my starboard engine and noticed the firing order on the manifold is the same as my port engine 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2.... Had to do a double take.... various other clues have me thinking the starboard engine may be a re-power, or at least pulled for a re-build at some point (Pulleys, Pumps, Pan, Block, Manifolds Valve Covers have been painted over with darker blue, the floor between the dinette seats appears to have been dissembled at some point). I would like to contact Carver with serial numbers but cant seem to find them. Where do I look?
TIA
Ken

I have seen counter-rotators in that vintage. If you crank over the engine, that will tell you for sure. Facing the front of the engine, if the crank turns counterclockwise/left, it's a counter-rotator.

Have a look at the top of the bellhousing, maybe in that area.Hold'n On II wrote:QR_BBPOST I would like to contact Carver with serial numbers but cant seem to find them. Where do I look?
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Also, if you contact Carver with your hull number, they should be able to tell you if your build had a counter-rotator or not from factory.

Yes, in the mid 90's most engine manufacturers switched to standard rotation for both engines and used the trans to counter rotate one prop.
There is no "cut off" date, as many boat manufacturers had stock engines of various size / hp that they used before going to all standard rotation.

Ya anything up to mid 90's is suspect for counter-rotation engines depending on production supply. I think the latest production I've seen with them so far is '96. That is not to say that all '96s have counter-rotators.

Re: 1996 370 Voyager Twin 454 Crusaders
My 1994 370 Voyager has Crusader 454XL engines with Velvetdrive 5000 transmissions .
Both engines are standard rotation and the reverse rotation is through the transmission .
If the sparkplug wires on the distributor caps are wired the same , then your reverse rotation is through your transmission.
You can also look at the shift cable linkage on the transmissions . You'll notice one of the transmissions will have the cables reversed .
