I am wondering if there are any members here that are also members of the Great Lakes Cruising Club. I recently resigned from the club I belonged to and are looking at my options for joining another boating club or organization.
GLCC hits many of the buttons that work for me. Just wondering if any here also belong to GLCC. Would like to hear the positives and/or negatives from that membership.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
Just curious why you left the last one? Were they a "facilities-based" one? (I forgot the official term of those cruising clubs have have some kind of 'base' vs those that are just orgs of boaters)
We've thought about joined one several different years but never actually pulled the trigger. Several of the folks we boat with are members of a "facilities-based" one and they head there several times over the summer to spend the weekend. That one was too pricey for us to consider.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
At one point we looked at the GLCC but didn't go thru with it on Georgian bay.....no particular reason. One of the benefits of belonging to a boat club for us was the organized cruises to reciprocal clubs and destinations on Lake Ontario. You would be going as a group, so lots of support both power and sail, those weekends were some of the best we had over the years belonging to the club.
Good luck with that Rick.
Good luck with that Rick.
FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
My reason for leaving my Club are personal. I am just looking for any experiences members here may have before I pull the trigger. GLCC does cover some of my needs. They are I-LYA and YCA affiliated, unfortunately they are not AYC affiliated like my recent Club. I am also considering joining one of the area clubs too.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
I applied for membership in the Great Lakes Cruising Club. From what I was told in the email their board will meet in early june and go over any applications and either approve or not. Standing by.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
Curious Rick, what is your main reason for belonging to a cruising club? Many joint because of the destinations they plan for their members. If that's the main reason, are there any marinas in your area that do the same thing at no extra cost to members? Some marinas in my area do that. They plan rendezvous throughout the season.

Re: Great Lakes Cruising Club
Most boat clubs have various cruises throughout the season. No special reason for joining a cruising club other than perhaps the club I just left was also a cruising club. That is one of the similarities between the club I left and this club. This club is also affiliated with Inter-Lakes Yachting Association and Yacht Clubs of America which my previous club also belonged to.
As far as marinas doing cruising activities I don't know if any of the marinas in my area do that.
