Cover for electrical and water shore connection

Post by tgebler »

My 2000 396 aft cabin has a small door on the transom which covers the access for the shore power and shore water connections. The door is broken which I would like to replace. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You have power and water in the same enclosure?

That is the way Carver made it but yes. I am talking about the shore connections.

Same on my boat. Although no door just an access hole. Image

Agree, that is a bad design. Thankfully, on my 356, I have my shore power connections in a compartment with a door and my water connection is on the other side of the transom.
Got a buddy with a 41’ Regal and he has both connections in an enclosed compartment. Can’t believe ABYC would allow that. Maybe they did at one time but don’t any longer.

Doubtful that their still available but it doesn't hurt to try and call Carver with your hull number. I would just get some 1/2" starboard, cut it out to shape, attach the hinges and away you go. Lots of other plastic options available too.

might also try greatlakesskipper to see what they might have.

What's actually "broke" with the current door? Is it a hinge problem or a latch problem or is the door actually fractured somehow? If the door is actually broke, maybe a local glass shop could use the parts to make a mold and create a new door our of GRP?

That is my boat :)

Do you have the cover at all or is it missing? I am going up to my boat next weekend and I would take some measurements for you. It is just a piece of 1/4 plastic that has been cut to fit. I would order some from amazon, Tap Plastics, or where ever else (Make sure that the type you buy is UV resistant and will be ok in the elements). Then just cut it out with a jigsaw and a metal cutting blade.

To be honest the box is kind of a pain and I have thought about taking it out all together. ad putting a blank over it with exterior grade connectors.

Could you take a picture of yours and post it? I am going to add a shore water connection and I have had a hard time finding a picture of where the factory connection is located exactly.
