Hello
Bilgewater here. Long time boater, just purchased a 78 Carver Mariner 3396 in Macedon, NY. The wife and I have refurbished a 72 Gulfstar 36, (sold); a 74 Mainship 34 (sunk by Hurricane Florence in NC), and a 75 Chris Craft double cabin (totaled at Dunkirk NY marina by a late May northeaster). Third time a charm? We enjoy rehabbing older boats if they are sound to start with, and this Carver fits the bill. The main issue is window leakage, not surprising in a 43 year old boat. Asking the collective knowledge about sealants, or complete replacement of the offending windows. What do you say?
"Keep putting off until tomorrow, and you'll be left with a bunch of empty yesterdays". Prof. Harold Hill

Re: Hello
Welcome aboard and congrats on the new acquisition. Man you've been busy!
While it may seem that they're leaking from behind the frames, a lot of times they leak because the channels can't drain. This is usually the result of an accumulation of crud that once cleaned out usually cures the problem, so check that first before committing to removing the entire assembly to re-bed it. If the problem is drainage, you'll have the same issue after re-bedding. Having said that, re-bedding may be due as well for that vintage.
