360 sport sedan shore power

Hello, I just bought a2004 360 sport sedan and noticed the two 30 amp power cables are actually built into the boat. They don't connect like most other boats. I want to replace the cables. Has anyone done this on a 360?

Hi, we just bought at 2003 Carver 360 SS. One of our power cables has a small split in it. Wondering if you found a way to replace the 30 amp power cords with new ones?? ( seems your post is from last year , hoping you have found an easy solution)
Our mechanic suggests a complete redo with traditional boat side hook ups . Surely there is an easier way.

I would assume they either attach to a junction then routed to the distribution/breaker panel or they go directly to the panel. If they go directly to the panel and would be a pain to access/remove, I see no reason why a junction box couldn't be installed somewhere accessible and just replace the cables from there back if the cables are okay from there forward. Just ensure it's a proper junction box for the application and water/ignition proof/sealed. Having said that, I also agree that if the cables are okay from the transom forward, you could also cut the cables there and install two power inlet fixtures instead of a junction box and just use the regular portable cords. Why do the cables have to be replaced? Problem with the cables or just the plugs?

One of the cables has ~ 3 inch linear split in the yellow waterproof covering, more proximal to the boat than the shore side.
Looks like it might have been cut/ pinched by the door on the swim platform which is meant to hide the cord , since by design has a long rough edge to it. I called Carver, and apparently the power cords are hard wired to the forward breaker box. They even admitted it is a bad design overall and tough to replace ! Unbelievable !!

If I am reading this correctly, the power cord enters the boat and continues all the way to the panel, correct?

So, is there room to install a regular shore power inlet at that bulkhead?

If so, snip the wire about a foot out of the bulkhead, and cut out for a shore power inlet. If you can't find a way to the backside of that bulkhead to hold locknuts, then you could glass in some marine plywood to the backside and use stainless wood screws to hold the shorepower inlet in place. Then take the snipped off cord, strip it back, and connect it to the shorepower inlet.

Yes you are correct, power cord goes all the way to the panel.
We have our mechanic looking at doing the same as you recommend above. Will Keep you posted .

Closing out this old thread...
We did cut the original power cables & installed two transom compartment mounted bulkhead connectors. We now have a more or less normal shore power cable architecture. Works perfectly.
