Re-Naming Project

Post by hinzee623 »

I bought the boat as New Beginnings, great name, fitting name too, but I wanted to name it something more near and dear to me. What better name than after man's best friend! My dog's name is Ghost. The Hampton NH was decals, so just scraped those off with a puddy knife and Goof Off. New Beginnings was a little more work since it was painted on. A combo of paint thinner, Goof Off and 60 & 220 grit sand paper did the trick (no damage to the gel coat). Followed by a coat of Maguires color restorer, then a coat of West Marine Wax Restorer as the final prep. Best I could do, to offset the UV discoloration.
Decal install pretty self explanatory, little water/soap spray prior to sticking and a lot of patience to follow!

Staying true to tradition/superstition, I had a denaming and renaming ceremony! :beergood:

Decal was from https://doityourselflettering.com/vinyl-lettering/

Very smart move on the ceremony! Couple of flutes and a little bubbly is cheap insurance! Now the sea Gods are smiling!

Looks NICE!

I had to remove a painted-on name before. It had been on there so long there was actually a height difference between the gel coat under the letters and around them. I had to do a bit of wet sanding and polishing to get rid of it all, but even years later if you looked at just the right angle you could still make out the old name. The boat had been name "THE PROPHET" and had been owned by a priest.
