Does this represent anything you have seen so far, like wire colors etc...... I don't know the exact model this is from but maybe a visual may help someone.

FWIW.....The above is just my opinion.

I will try the wiggle rest on the harness. Would the harness prevent power from getting up to the port side panel gauges? And what would cause the gauges to max out when I flip the fuel gauge switch on?
There is a “reset” or something down near the starter solenoid that I am not familiar with. Have not diagnosed it in any way yet. It’s a little red button with wires running to it and the solenoid and the transmission. I have pushed it but it doesn’t change anything.
My solenoid doesn’t click when I turn the ignition switch because there is no power at the panel/switch.

This is the engine harness connector you want to inspect. Make sure ALL the pin in there are making good contact and have no corrosion. If any are corroded too much and can't be cleaned, you may have to cut them out of the connector and put a splice around the connector.
I'm reposting the diagram that was posted earlier. It's not clear where the pins are on there, so I circled them in RED. If you look near the center of the picture, you'll see "Engine Breaker". That's the RED button on your engine and is the main power to your instrument panel. It also goes through the fuse on the panel that you already checked (but on the diagram that is labelled "20A IGN Breaker (dash)".. but yours is a glass fuse) Pin 5 on the connector and it should be a red wire. That's the most important one, but the ground (pin 1, black wire) must also be good as well.

Thank you again for all your help. The boat is an hour away so I won’t get back to it until this weekend. Can the 50 A engine breaker go bad? Where would I find a replacement? Is the starter possibly causing it to trip? Or something else?

Stupid question: do both sides of the panel and both motors get power when plugged into shore power?

Re: No power to port side panel AFT 1983 Carver 28 Mariner
Well, yes, but indirectly. EVERYTHING on the panel is D.C. powered, so the power comes from the batteries or the engines. When you're plugged into shore power, there usually is a battery charger that would supply power from the shore power to the D.C. system to replenish the batteries.
However, the problems you're having have nothing to do with shore power, so don't get distracted by that. Is there something on the shore power side that is making you think it's an issue?

Try checking the ground cables that go from engine to the other engine.I had a similar problem a few years back and they had come loose causing some weird things like you are describing.

Ok thank you. Where do they hook up on each engine?
