Yea, unfortunately, you have to be ready to grab pretty quick in this market. Could have sold my Carver 5 times this season to people just walking by and asking if I would consider selling! The clean boats go fast. But......there is always another one around the corner. 8-) er

Drove over to Muskegon to look at the Bayliner. While conditions were less than desirable we were able to sea trial the boat. It ran well. The seller is the 2nd owner having owned it for 17 years. He moved up to a newer 310 Chaparral. The engine was rebuilt in 2008 and the drive was replaced with a Jasper dual prop drive in 2012. From what I have read Jasper makes a pretty decent drive.

I am contemplating making an offer subject to a successful appraisal. It is a 23 year old boat and does show some age but generally it shows well. The water heater was removed but that can be replaced as all the water lines are there. Canvas is in good shape. I did bring my son along for a 2nd opinion. If I do purchase I will need to have the boat hauled from there to here. Gotta get a price on that. Now is a good time to buy being the end of the season.

I am going to check to see if rack storage is available and compare it to the cost of a slip. The nice thing about rack storage is the boat is inside out of the weather except when it is being used. May still go look at some other boats.

There is no hour meter. Is there a way to check engine hours if there is no meter on board?

Don't think you can get into the puter on an older engine to get hours. That being said, I would higly suggest a compression test to get a good idea of engine wear. What engine does this boat have and what model boat are you looking at?

Unless something has changed and they are manufacturing their own product from scratch now, Jasper is just a remanufacturer, in other words, it would be a reconditioned original Merc or Volvo, etc. drive with their logo on it.

This particular boat is a Bayliner 2655 Ciera. It has a Mercruiser 5.7 250 HP engine. I was hoping that there might be a diagnostic port one could use to get that information from.

I don't think there'll be a diagnostic port on that engine. Are you sure it's a 250HP and not a 350, especially with a Bravo III? I don't recall seeing that late a vintage 250. Do you have a serial number?

Get a moisture meter all over that hull also. Bayliner may have been building with totally cored hulls on every hull under 34 feet. My mechanic saw a lot of rotted transoms. He also salvages boats on the side. 8-) er

Definitely. If I make an offer it will be subject to a successful survey. Especially since this boat has been kept in the water its whole life. All of my I/O boats were rack stored. Only in the water when being used.
