Gas tank leak

Thanks for your input. Still working on it. Had a fail of a Promariner/Pronautic 12V/30A battery charger which ruined 2x6V starter batteries connected in series due to overcharging. The charger and batteries are 1 year old and thankfully the 2 other golf cart batteries seem spared. Boat will be immobile for a week or more. Promariner highly rated by internet and West Marine but have been advised the 12V/30A has a history of a high failure rate?? Will replace it with Victron 12/30 smart charger (3 banks). This has been done Nov. 2021.

Aero Tec Labs LTD custom makes bladder type fuel tanks which are USCG approved. I'm presuming they can be fitted into an existing tank or may be stand alone. https://www.atlltd.com/industries/marin ... r-bladders. Anyway, it is an interesting read.

Interesting about the ProMariner. I have not had many fail compared to the numbers I've installed. Was it set to the proper battery type? Have you eliminated other possibilities like poor connections? It would be a shame to replace the batteries and charger only to find out the real culprit was bad wiring or a poor connection somewhere. Why are you going with a 20 amp charger on a boat that size and one that you're charging a bank of 6 volt batteries? That's a pretty small charger for that purpose unless it's just to maintain at the dock but for that you don't need a bank of 6 volt batteries either. Is the 20 Amp unit a secondary charger?

The bladder tanks have their place but you'll have to cut access in the existing tank and you'll have to figure out how to deal with the baffles inside it. To get any decent volume, you'll have to put more than one bladder in the tank because of the baffles then connect them together which means more fitting and chances of leaks. Or is your intention to cut out the existing tank completely and replace with a single bladder?

To each his own.....but......if I was looking for an older boat, the fuel system would be one of or the most important considerations. I would certainly avoid any cobbled up fuel systems.

So that said, like before consider the possibility of resale here......good luck man...

Aero Tec advises that after reviewing photos there is not enough clearance to have them fabricate a bladder tank substitute. So the discussion has ended. As regards the failed Promariner Battery Charger we have chosen a Victron 3 bank charger that appears to be satisfactory so far.
