1985 carver 3207 aft cabin

Post by gloudb »

I’m looking at buying a 1985 carver 3207 aft cabin, I’m just curious as to what the fuel consumption is at half throttle, and although it’s not an ideal boat for it I’d like to try to use it for trolling for salmon a little, so will it be able to go as slow as 2-3 miles an hour? And how much gas would it use at that speed?

Assuming twin 5.7's fuel usage at idle speeds 2 to 3 MPH not bad. I had a 3007 with twin 5.7's and idle speeds gas usage was not at all bad. Cruising speeds though, that's another matter. Good luck. There is a lot of room in a 3207.

I think the only way you'd get down to 2-3 MPH is running one engine, which wouldn't be an issue. Normal idle with both engines in gear would be between 4-5 if you have the engines idling normally (I see some guys running a bit higher idle though, and pushing 5-6).

I'd guess fuel consumption at "1/2 throttle" would be a bit hard to predict. You can push "1/2 throttle" and still be plowing water and not up on plane and get horrible consumption, or you can mash the throttle, get up on plane, then back off to about "1/2 throttle" and be barely up on plane and get some pretty decent economy. In the first case, I'd guess 0.5 MPG and the second case closer to 1.5 MPG.

As a follow up to km1125, 1/2 throttle is a horrible speed as far as fuel consumption goes. Hull speed on that boat is in the 6-1/2 to 7 knot range. Do not run a boat between hull speed and full plane.

MOTOR YACHT Carver 3207 AFT CABIN 1985
Perhaps one of the cleanest Carver 3207 Aft cabins for sale today. She was owned by a friend of mine, a professional marine mechanic who has rebuilt her with two upgraded Mercruiser 6.2 MPI fuel-injected engines and newer Hurth transmissions which he bought from a yacht rental near me. She has a bow thruster and electric windlass, custom hardtop, and custom fiberglass rear steps to make boarding easier.
