Head panel and molding cracked around window

Postby JimCarver » August 29th, 2021, 3:36 pm

Hi there,

I own a 2004 Mariner 360 and the panel and molding around the head window is broken and slowly falling apart. It's like if the head panel was slowly pulling out from the window with time.

The window is nice and solid and not moving and the only part that is loose is the oval molding around the window. Here are a few pictures.

Has anyone out there ever had this problem or heard about it?

Thank you!

Welcome aboard.

Ya saw this before and had to replace a couple on a customer's Carver. They get brittle and yellow over time. Was a while ago so I can't remember for sure but probably a Bomar/Pompanette product. I do remember being surprised at how much whiter the new ones were! Contact Bomar/Pompanette and send them a picture with measurements, they're really good to deal with and will help you out if it's indeed their product and still have the frames available.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Your quick reply is very much appreciated Viper. I wrote to Pompanette and awaiting a response.

Thank you.

Hello Viper, I did contact Bomar/Pompanette but they're asking me for a part number which I cannot find on the broken part. Since it might be in the inside of the part, I tried dismounting it but it's making it so much worst, but if that's the only way for me to get the part number, I'll take it off and cross my fingers that a part number is on the inside of the part.
Pompanette is also asking me for the part number of the portlight, but I do not see the serial number anywhere. So I'll need to take the portlight apart also, and it's easier to do that while the boat is out of the water next week,
Thanks for your time.

Might could take some measurements of the port and get online to see if a model would come up for it. Like here or other.

OMG, can't believe I found the info. Had to dig deep into 2016 archives but this is what I found; if the outside measurements of your trim ring is 22"L x 11" H, the Pompanette part number should be VT517-1-1/16OW ("White VAC trim for 517") This was for a 2003 466 MY but likely the same unit and the year is close. You should have them confirm first based on your picture and measurements.

Keep us posted and if you end up with something else and a different part number, please post it for future reference.

Hello Admiral, thank you for the link to the Pompanette web page showing the different port holes but they really want a part number.

Hello Viper, thank you for this information!! I'll contact Pompanette with this part number and confirm with them based on my measurements and pictures and keep you posted for sure.

Cheers!

Hey Viper! I contacted Bomar/Pompanette with your part number, ordered it and received it 4 days later. I'm so happy I found this part and I hope it fits properly. I'll then do a nice caulking job and it should do the trick.

Thank you so much for your help!! Very much appreciated.
