I think you are doing the right thing. Spring will come soon enough, and then you'll see if this one is still around.

Re: May Have Found Another Carver
It's always a big gamble buying a boat without a survey or a sea trial. Maybe if the price was susbtantially reduced, but even then...

Re: May Have Found Another Carver
Since the sellers did not accept my offer I sent the broker the following email.
Thanks for the update.
I am not going to buy any boat without both a successful survey and sea trial. That's the bottom line and I would wager that the sellers will follow the same process when they find a replacement boat.
That said I do the following.
I will leave my offer of $17000 pending a successful survey and sea trial on the table.
I remove the clause I put in the original offer to give the sellers 1/2 of any deposit I placed on the vessel if I pulled out for any reason other than an unsuccessful survey and/or sea trial. That was a one time offer to show that I was a serious buyer.
Until I have an accepted offer I also retain the right to withdraw my current offer at any time without penalty should I successfully find another boat to my liking.
That is where I stand.
I will wait and see what happens next.

Re: May Have Found Another Carver
The I may have found another Carver saga has come to an end. I went to look at the 2767 back in November. I liked it a lot. Nice looking boat. I made an offer and the broker thought it was a generous offer. He presented it to the sellers and they decided they did not want to tie up the boat with an offer over the winter so they did nothing.
Since they did not accept my offer I did modify my original offers terms and told the broker I would leave that offer on the table. November passed, December passed as did most of January and I heard nothing from the broker or the sellers. I spent the time reflecting on my boat usage over the past two seasons. After analyzing my usage and the costs just to have a boat at my marina I came to the conclusion it was time to go in another direction. Just having the boat at the marina costs me just over $3500 per year. Last season I spent only one night aboard the boat and I never left the dock. It was time to sell which I did.
I came to the conclusion it was time for me to downsize as I feel that my big boat cruising days are over. At least for now so this past Friday I closed on a new smaller trailerable boat. I bought a 2022 Tahoe T-16.
Hopefully the picture posts. This is now the direction I choose to go. No repairs everything new and with the ability to trailer I am opening up new boating destinations. We have a lot of nice inland lakes here in Michigan that I will begin to explore. One chapter of my life ends and a new chapter begins.

To bad they did not accept my offer. I would have gone through with the deal. Their loss.

Re: May Have Found Another Carver
Congrats on the new boat. Yes, that certainly would open up different waters, including the "inland waterway" up north!!
Lots of GREAT lakes here other than the Great Lakes!!
