I have 1989 38 aft Carver. My salon lights tucked above the windows don't work. replaced bulb - no help. The previous owner removed one of the fixtures at the starboard side and just left the wire hanging. these wire are not getting any power.
Any suggestions, the other lights and outlets all work.
Thank
Mpw

Re: Salon lights
Those lights are typically daisy chained from one to the other. Disconnecting with wires dangling would cut power down the line if they are on the same circuit/switch. I suggest you break out the volt meter and start at the switch itself to see if power is available. Have you checked the 12v breakers?

Re: Salon lights
Hi,
Okay thanks for the suggestion - it has power -so it appears all my bulbs are burnt out. I can not find a source for 12v 4' flourscent bulbs - any suggestios or where to buy direct wire 12 v fixtures.
Thanks again for your help.
Mitch

Re: Salon lights
12 volt florescent fixtures usually use a power supply to change the voltage to 120V.

Re: Salon lights
Sorry, read that wrong and thought you were referring to puck lights. Voltage is going to determine what you need for a replacement so you need to sort that out first. Normal florescents require a ballast that jump start it. These ballasts do go bad.
Lots of possibilities however replacing with led bar lighting on 12v would be the best option IMHO. Here you may find a bulb solution however like I said, voltage will determine what you need. My guess is a 12v style, bypass the ballast and you should be good to go. https://www.ledlightbulb.net/led-fluore ... luorescent

Re: Salon lights
Superbright leds also has lots of 12v light bar solutions, biggest thing which ever you go is to verify that the fixture can tolerate power above 12vdc much like your car which can go up to 14.5 vdc so it won't fail.

Re: Salon lights
I have the same boat and lighting above my windows. I'll be switching them out to LED strip lights. I've already replaced the fluorescent lighting around the dinette with LED strips and the old rope lights around the base of the aft cabin bed and curtain valances above the bed. Next is the fluorescent lighting in the galley, then closets and pantry. Easy installs.
