Starlink in San Juan Islands - Day 2

Post by gmac98004 »

Hi Everyone,

Just thought it might be useful to give some feedback on our new Starlink setup.

We've been anchored out with our friends at Hunter Bay, which is on the west side of Lopez Island in Washington State. Normally limited cell coverage with no wifi access other than a T-Mobile or AT&T hot spot.

So far, the 2 boats with 4 adults, and 2 teenagers have had sensational results. Lots of teenager social media nonsense and adults tracking fixes for various projects and issues! We've had a range of 60-100 mb download speed available since we anchored yesterday.

Power draw is something to consider at anchor but more so on setup while the "dishy" aquires location etc.

Happy 4th of July from my family to yours!

Be Safe, Greg

Thanks for the update. I am holding out hopefully for the in-motion unit eventually rumoured to come out hoping it coincides with reception in my area because as of now it seems I will only get service in 2023 in my boating area.

Looks like they finally got approval for in motion. https://driveteslacanada.ca/spacex/spac ... in-motion/

I ordered a Dishy McFlatface (RV) last week. Yes this is the name they gave it. https://arstechnica.com/information-tec ... fi-router/ Hopefully it will be easy to install and work as well as I have seen on various forums. They did come out with a real "marine" unit just today called Starlink Maritime however this is more for cruise ships and the big boys and people with deep pockets as it does cost $10,000 for the hardware and $5,000 a month to run.
